CONSTANTA METROPOLITAN AREA - PRESENTATION

The Metropolitan Area Constanța has a population of approximately 500 000 inhabitants and is the first administrative structure of its kind in Romania, consisting of 14 cities and towns, namely: the cities of Constanța, Năvodari, Eforie, Ovidiu, Murfatlar and Techirghiol, and the towns of Mihail Kogălniceanu, Cumpăna, Valu lui Traian, Lumina, Tuzla, Agigea, Corbu and Poarta Albă. As well, the Metropolitan Area Constanța is intended to be an effective administrative tool for promoting joint development projects and integrated area development for reducing disparities between localities, a facilitator for attracting investments and structural funds, a platform for collaboration of its component administrative-territorial units and a development core of public services.
In this respect, the objectives of Metropolitan Area Constanța are the following:

The most important investments will be in the real estate, followed by those in infrastructure, tourism and trade. Also, important investments of over 4.5 billion euros will be engaged in industry and services, in these sectors having to be created over 15,000 new jobs.
Public investments play an important role in the equation of integrated development of the area. In this respect, important projects have been already started, such as: detours (functioning as a  highway), rehabilitation and extension of sewerage and water supply in Metropolitan Area Constanța and urban renewal of Constanța downtown. All these projects amount to investments of over 600 million euros. In this context, the Metropolitan Area Constanța will facilitate the technical development and implementation of joint projects at regional level, by constructing an expertise in this area, by improving administrative management of such actions (in the context of specific rules imposed by various funders), and by the possibility of shared engagement of resources.
