OVIDIU CITY - PRESENTATION

 

The city Ovidiu is located on the western shore of Siutghiol Lake, just 10 km north of Constanţa municipality. In the north it is crossed by the Poarta Albă - Midia Năvodari Canal. The city has in its composition the village Poiana and the town Nazarcea.
Population
The city's population exceeds 13,100 people, and in ethnic terms, in Ovidiu live Turks, Tartars, Roma, Aromanians, Moldavians, Oltenians, Transylvanians and Dobrudjans.
Short Description
The industry is the main economic activity carried on in this city, followed by trade, services and agriculture. In the last period, due to its location on the shore of Siutghiol Lake, real estate market trends greatly influenced the development of the city, transforming it into an important residential area.
On the island Ovidiu of Siutghiol Lake it is assumed that there would be the grave of poet Publius Ovidius Naso. Currently, on the island operates a tourist complex with a restaurant with traditional fish and Romanian specific.
The city offers diversified recreational opportunities, among which we have to mention: the Cultural Centre, the City Sport Club, the karting track, restaurants, excursions to the island Ovidiu, Popasul Cişmea (the Cișmea Stop) etc.
