SWOT ANALYSIS OF AGIGEA TOWN

Strong points

 

  • Port Constanţa South - Agigea;
  • Danube - Black Sea Canal;
  • the town is crossed by the main roads in the Metropolitan Area Constanţa (Constanţa Detours DN 39, D38);
  • existence of terrestrial communication lines i.e. national roads Constanţa - Mangalia (DN 39) and Constanţa - Negru Vodă (DN 38) and of rail lines connecting the town to the industrialized areas of the county;
  • network of county roads covering relatively balanced the territory;
  • infrastructure of public utilities well represented at the town level;
  • existence in the town of three schools (two schools and a kindergarten);
  • existence of a cultural home and a public library;
  • existence in the town of two individual medical cabinets of family medicine and of a pharmacy;

Weak points

 

  • obvious discrepancy of development in terms of standards and social comfort level between Constanţa and Agigea town;
  • road infrastructure and public utilities development do not keep up with real estate accelerated development in the last two decades: the roads network is not upgraded and insufficiently sized in the Lazu area and in the periphery areas of Agigea;
  • agglomeration trend of the main roads passing through the town, especially during the summer season;
  • existence of long-term unemployment and disguised unemployment especially among middle-aged people and young people from families without financial possibilities;
  • insufficient development of basic utilities and public services (health, education etc);
insufficient local financial resources for support / promote of investments.

Opportunities

 

  • integrated development of metropolitan type by membership of the town Agigea in the Metropolitan Area Constanţa;
  • development trend of container terminal as a result of Constanţa detours completion with discharge in the Port Constanţa South Agigea
  • exploiting the economic potential through development of fields such as storage of goods and associated port services;
  • exploiting the sanatorium with balneo- therapeutic functions as a potential source of jobs
  • accessing of EU funds and of various national financing programs.

Threats

 

  • chaotic development of the city especially from the real estate point of view;
  • discrepancy of town development in relation to real estate development;
  • risk of incompatibility between residential function of the town and economic development through the emergence of economic activities with pollutant character in the residential areas;
  • economic crisis with negative effects on long-term development of port activities and of tertiary sector;
  • labour force migration, particularly among young people.
